savage
garden:
the facts!
-
I Want You, their first-ever song, was the highest selling Australian
single of 1996, and rose to number four on the national charts before being
deleted from stock. It then debuted in the American Billboard charts
at number 31, the highest debut ever achieved by an Australian artist with
their first single. It rose to number four there, as well as zooming
to the top of the charts in Canada, Turkey and Israel. It was nominated
for an ARIA Award for Best Debut Single.
-
To The Moon And Back peaked at number one on the national charts.
Savage Garden are the first Brisbane band to ever achieve this. It
also charted highly in America and Europe.
-
Truly Madly Deeply, their third single, is their biggest hit to date.
It stayed at number one in Australia for eight weeks, at the same time
their debut album was on top of the album chart (a record breaking feat).
It also consolidated their overseas success by charting well in several
countries.
-
Break Me Shake Me, their fourth hit, showed a new side to the band,
a far more rocky, funky edge, but still did just as well as their romantic
ballads. It's one of Darren's favourite songs - and the public obviously
agrees!
-
Universe is the most recent single, and even though half of Australia
seems to have the album by now, they still bought this beautiful ballad in
huge quantities, pushing it up the charts to follow its predecessors and
score another hit. Savage Garden can't do anything wrong!
-
Their self-titled album created history on April 1, 1997, when it debuted
in the national chart at number one, while Truly Madly Deeply was
fighting off all competition on the singles chart. They're the first
Australian band ever to achieve this double feat. The album was released
on March 24 and went platinum withing three days. It spent 19 weeks
at number one, 16 of them consecutively. It's sold 10 times platinum
so far.
-
Savage Garden continued to shatter records at last year's ARIA Awards.
They picked up 10 awards - the most ever for any artist. They
won Best Australian Album, Best Australian Single for Truly Madly
Deeply, Best Australian Group, Song of the Year for To The Moon And
Back, Best Australian Debut Album, Best Pop Release for To The Moon
And Back, Best Independent Album Release, Highest Selling Single for
Truly Madly Deeply, Australian Producer Of The Year: Charles Fisher,
